Is expanding foam the same as spray foam insulation?
Expanding foam and spray polyurethane foam both expand after application, but they differ in application scale and density. One-component can foam (commonly called expanding foam) is used for sealing small gaps and penetrations. Two-component spray foam systems are used for larger insulation applications. Can expanding foam fill large cavities?
One-component can foam is designed for gaps up to 3 inches. Larger cavities require two-component spray foam equipment. Overfilling can foam into large cavities can create pressure during expansion that damages framing -- we size the product to the application.
